Knowing when an oil study is done... ah yes, well--this can be the most challenging part of the experience, especially if you are a perfectionist. Most of the time the light changes, and your hand is forced regardless; time to pack up and move on...
That could mean you end up with a completed masterpiece, or it could just mean that a splendid day of painting has been experienced. When it comes to painting on location, delight is truly in the journey.
The weather was absolutely beautiful today. No biting insects, wayward animals, rain, or wind. Success! :) Now... to pack up and head back home.
