Winter Park sketch date

Jeff was a good sport and suggested that we do some sketching together in Winter Park, Florida this afternoon. Of course the added bonus of having lunch on Park Avenue does help sway him towards trying his hand at sketching in public.

After strolling through the farmer's market, we decided on a small area in front of the main park and Amtrak station. The heat was brutal, so the shade we found was a welcome relief.

Some children stopped by and asked cute questions about whether I had really made that tree drawing--their wonder and curiosity is so completely captivating to me. Children just have no fear of showing delight and joy--they express it so freely. I assured them that they too were quite capable of creating the same kind of drawing with a simple ballpoint pen. They absolutely trust what you tell them; they believe in their artistic selves, having extraordinary faith in their own power. So refreshing. That's why I wanted to be a teacher.
