Project Runway

My daughter and I got totally hooked on Project Runway years ago when we sat and watched an entire series non-stop through lunch and dinner. It was one of those lounge lizard tv viewing moments not to be forgotten. :D I love to sew, but I do not have the technical skills that the contestants have on this show. I am always amazed at what they come up--and in such a limited time frame too! Besides the sewing, I enjoy seeing little visual shots of New York City. Makes me realize how much I'd love to live there, even if only for a little while!

So, in honor of last night's airing of Project Runway's new season, I was inspired to do some "sketching." Unfortunately, Caitlin is not home, so I recorded the show. We plan to watch it together on Monday night when she is home from violin music camp.

obstacles

A reminder to myself to keep a fresh perspective on obstacles that come my way. They often look more daunting than they actually are in reality. One step at a time. :)

notebook journal

I was in the mood to collect some quotes the other day, which led to some composition notebook journaling. Usually visual pieces collect around my desk--images that I want to keep for one reason or another, and they all end up glued on a page, usually with no rhyme or reason. Somehow it all works. It gives me a chance to "be in the moment". :)

dinner model

This lovely tomato was the pre-dinner painting model last night. I couldn't resist rendering a quick sketch in colored pencils before it became part of my salad. :) Summer and tomatoes--they just go together! YUM!

embroidery bits

Thinking that I can somehow incorporate these embroidery motifs into my paper journals. I don't really have any plans for them, so it makes sense to add them to the paper projects, otherwise they sit in a drawer with no purpose. Perhaps I'll sew them right into the art journal? I keep wondering what will happen to all this "creative" stuff when I am no longer here... does anyone else think about that?

Some people just can't help but bring tangible things into being. I don't even do it for money necessarily--creativity is an interesting topic of study. I think I should start reading The Creative Process and The Courage to Create--both books sit on my shelf, so far unread. Should be good reading for this afternoon.

timeless zone

My thoughts become symbols, which become color and form in the moleskine... the land of trees in a timeless zone bedecked with baubles that glitter--beware of the shiny distractions; you have no power over time, silly girl

Rattlesnake weed

A morning sketch with colored pencils. I am in self-imposed "weed therapy". I've lived in suburbia too long--thoroughly brainwashed by community "yard" rules. There is more to life than St. Augustine grass. :P Embrace the weeds... repeat after me... :D

fruits and florals

Fruit and florals--a quick moleskine sketch during the afternoon tea time. Ink and watercolors.

sketches

Working the ink pen--trying to dabble here and there with ideas in my sketchbook--whatever comes out at the moment. The holiday weekend was busy with friends and family, so not much is getting done in the art studio. Add in summer irrigation problems and gardening responsibilities, and that pretty much takes away most artistic, creative energy. It ebbs and flows. I suppose I'm used to that by now.
