Limited palette study

It's amazing how busy one can get around the holidays. I finally had a chance to do some experimenting in the studio. I was recently reading about using a limited palette, so I challenged myself to use only white, yellow light, alizarin and ultramarine blue. I was a bit frustrated trying to get my brown shades, but I think it will take some time to get used to working through the color mixing process instead of opening up a brown tube of paint! If anything, it is good to shake things up a bit. :)

Charcoal Experiment

I wanted to use the myriad of drawing tools (pastel pencils and charcoal pencils, etc.) that are lying in my pencil box. I never think to get them out and experiment. This morning I used Derwent's charcoal (light) to sketch this quick doodle and added thin ink lines with a Uniball pen over top.

Random doodles while my daughter has a violin lesson. Uniball with gouache added later on in my small Moleskine.

Raining Cats Challenge

I created these cards for a swap I joined on Illustrated ATCs... the theme was obviously, cats! Watercolor and ink on Arches watercolor paper.
