Field Trip Sketches

Today we went to Ponce Inlet to visit the Marine Science Center with the third grade classes. I had an opportunity to sketch while the docent was explaining some of the exhibits. I used my leather sketchbook, the Pilot V-5 pen, my Niji brush, and small watercolor kit. It is always challenging to try and capture sketches from live models, but it was worth the effort. I added some color while I was eating my lunch under the pavillion.
The entrance to the Science Center. These are Saw Palmettos.

Brown Pelican Exhibit--these guys are constantly moving!

Priscilla, the Kestrel, which perched on the docent's hand during the entire tour.

Freddie the Iguana, a most cooperative model. Very stoic. :)

Working...

I haven't had much time for art these past few weeks. I've been getting used to my new work schedule. I keep thinking I'll get home and do some drawing or painting, but there are usually other things to get done.

There is no excuse to put art aside, so I'm hoping to carve out some creative time soon!

Pencil and Watercolor

I've been working at a new job (at an elementary academy) these past few weeks, so I haven't been spending that much time sketching. I started this spread in August, sketching the sculpture on the right using pencil over a watercolor wash.

Tonight I added the pencil drawing on the left from a magazine image. Unfortunately that may be all I can accomplish this evening, for I'm suffering from a bad sinus infection and am waiting for the Z-pack to kick in. This is a well known hazard in the field of teaching... you WILL get ill if you spend time around little ones. I'm hoping to feel better soon, so I can enjoy the Labor Day weekend.
