I was feeling really icky last night with 100 degree fever and head cold, but I couldn't give up my drawing time. I wasn't in the mood to set up a still life, so I brought my Moleskine and water soluble oil pastels into bed and found a magazine reference that I could draw while I watched the evening news and waited for my allergy meds to kick in. Of course I altered the composition to fit in my little sketchbook. ;)
Kathleen -- what perserverence to skech when you felt so bad -- and the pears are BEAUTIFULLY DONE!! I sure hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteKathleen, good for you indeed. Love the rich colours you've given your delightful pear study.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen;
ReplyDeleteYour bowl of pears is so beautifully rendered, I got hungry just looking at it! Absolutely lovely!
Get well, soon.
LOVE the pears. feels so simplistic, but really carries a punch in the visual interest category. one of those pictures that a person could just sit and ponder over and over. excellent job, but i know that you'll just keep getting better and better.
ReplyDeletei need to practice a more "free' style where i'm not so concerned w/ the attention to details being so absolutely accurate but rather a representation of the object. i guess it would be more of "impressionistic" art (rather than "realism") -- since i take your picture to be more "impressionism".
please don't be offended if i have used the wrong terms -- remember i don't have art training but am just an art lover. this is a compliment and i love the work! wish i could see it in person!!
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for viewing and commenting on my pear study. Jill, I'm not very great with knowing different art labels when it comes to styles either. I guess we could call it "Kathleen Impressionism". LOL I do like the impressionists very much, so no doubt I lean toward this type of work. I am no Monet though! ha ha. I appreciate your compliment... it really energizes me to keep sketching this week, even if my nose and allergies have other plans! ugh! I hope to continue to experiment this year--getting looser and more free with my strokes and colors. :)
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteThose pears are fabulous! Lovely line work and great zany colours.
I do hope you are feeling better now!

I'm amazed that you did this drawing while you had a fever! The pears are beautiful -- I like your sketch more than the photo.
ReplyDelete:-) Feel better!
I hope you are feeling much better Kathleen! Aren't pears just wonderful to draw/paint - I think its their shape that is so luscious! Super colours in this- I hope you will do a painting from it!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen! Sorry you're not feeling great, but like the others, I'm impressed that you could still produce such a great little piece of art in your Moleskine. That's a great idea (using a photo still-life when a real one isn't available for whatever reason) and one I might borrow at some stage. Good for you. Enjoy your trip to Tampa. Looking forward to seeing the resulting art. :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderfull colors and a very nice background. I also prefer the drawing than the photo!
ReplyDeletemust try this! delierium drawing. Lovely in spite of your state
ReplyDeleteOoooo, Ooooo, OOoooooo, I love those! The art is better than the photo, and I'm a sucker for the subject. Really, really nice. What a great reference photo for a pencil version, and an ink version, and, and, and... Well, after you're all better. :-) Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for peeking at my pear study while I was away in Tampa! Your comments cheered me so much...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the trip over there was challenging with me not feeling so well as you will read in my latest post above. So, the artmaking sessions suffered and I didn't get as much drawn as I had expected. I keep reminding myself that one sketch is better than none, especially considering how icky I was feeling.
There's no place like home... even more true when you feel under the weather!
It's nice to come home to friends like you!
